New information has been revealed about Grammy-winning country singer Randy Travis this morning. After being hospitalized Sunday (July 7) due to complications with a recent diagnosis of a viral cardiomyopathy, the 54-year old singer has undergone heart surgery. Teresa Traywick (Travis’ sister-in-law) says heart problems run in the family.
Travis’ brother had a heart attack last year and, “their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so its like these boys are following right in their footsteps,” Traywick tells People.
An unidentified source tells TMZ that the singer was airlifted to the hospital after days of rapidly deteriorating health. What he thought was a cold turned out to be pneumonia.
The Deadwood, SC performance scheduled for Wednesday, July 10 has been canceled.
