- Artist Name: Roger Street Friedman
- Hometown: Sea Cliff, NY
What project(s) are you currently working on? I’m currently writing new music for the next album project, as well as setting up my studio for live streaming and the creation of video content for fans during the pandemic!
What inspired you to pursue a career in music and when did you know? I started playing the guitar when I was 7 years old, taught by my two older brothers, and by the time I was 16 or so, being a musician was pretty much wrapped around who I was as a person. In my late teens and early twenties, I was pursuing a career in music when my life took a left turn, and I wound up going in a completely different direction. It was a long way back, but after two-plus decades in a career that wasn’t making me very happy spiritually, a number of life events – the loss of my parents and the birth of my daughter, Allie, specifically – held a mirror up to my soul, and I got the message loud and clear that it was time to get back to who I am and start writing and performing again. That was about 12 years ago at this point, and now I’m really excited to be releasing my third full-length album.
If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what would you be doing for a living? I’ve always thought that being a Rodeo Clown seemed like a pretty exciting career (ha ha), but seriously my other dream job is to be on the Ski Patrol in Telluride, Colorado. It’s an amazing and magical place!
What is your favorite downtime activity? Hanging with my fam, and when I’m not doing that, riding my road bike…
Who is your biggest celebrity crush? Well – in light of current events I’d have to say John Prine. He was a National Treasure and one of the best songwriters of all-time.
Who is your favorite sports team(s)? The New York Mets and the New York Jets… what can I say? I love the underdogs!
What is the last movie that you watched? “The Book of Eli” with Denzel Washington. Maybe not the best choice at this particular time… <smirks>
What is the last album you listened to? Cat Stevens’ “Tea For The Tillerman” on vinyl. Classic and amazing.
If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be? My lord, that’s an impossible question! Off the top of my head, Chris Stapleton‘s “Traveler.” It’s one I’m really loving at the moment.
What is the greatest country song of all time? It’s gotta be “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”!
What has been your favorite city/town that you’ve visited out on the road? There are so many but I think Asheville, NC is a pretty cool town and one of the most beautiful places in the country.
What is your favorite meal? Grilled Ribeye with some crispy fries, hands down.
Who is your dream duet partner? Emmylou Harris!
Who would you like to go on tour with? Willie Nelson! That would be a high time…
What is your ultimate career goal(s)? I’d love to have some of my songs covered by more well-known artists… and other than that to get to play my music for people all over the world. That’s what makes paying dues all worthwhile!
