“South Georgia Strong” Tornado Relief Benefit Concert – Tifton, GA
Country music star John Berry is returning to his home state of Georgia to sing for a cause very near and dear to his heart. On Sunday, February 26, Berry will join fellow country stars Buddy Jewell, Ray Scott, Cyndi Thomson, and others, for the “South Georgia Strong” tornado relief benefit concert. The event will be held at the UGA Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia. 100% of the proceeds go to those affected by storms that ravaged the area just weeks ago.
“Our hearts are heavy after seeing everything that many of our friends and former neighbors are currently going through and will continue to go through over the days, weeks and months to come. The recent storms destroyed so much in the South Georgia region,” says Berry. “In times like this we must hold our heads up and stick our helping hands out.”
Between the hours of 3:00 AM and 3:00 PM on January 22, the storms spawned multiple tornadoes across seven South Georgia counties – Daugherty, Worth, Turner, Cook, Berrien, Brooks and Thomas. The results were nearly 20 confirmed deaths, hundreds of homes completely destroyed and over $100 million in damages. Daugherty County (Albany, GA), which was hit the hardest, was already recovering from a tornado that occurred on January 2.
Berry adds, “McAlpin Entertainment, who is hosting the benefit, reached out to me asking if I was available, knowing we used to live there and still have many friends residing in the affected areas, and I immediately accepted without reservation. It’s the right thing to do and I am blessed to be able to offer my time in hopes we can ease the burden some.”
The concert begins at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $30.00 and may be purchased online at Freshtix.com. The UGA Conference Center is located at 15 RDC Road in Tifton, Georgia.
