Congratulations to Toby Keith and Bobby Braddock on being named as part of the Class of 2015 for the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York! They will take their place in the all-genre Hall of Fame in a ceremony on June 18th.
Toby Keith the artist has dozens of hits, many of which he’s written. Some of his biggest hits include “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!,” “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American),” “Beer For My Horses,” “I Love This Bar,” and “As Good As I Once Was.” Keith also has the distinction of having written a #1 song for 20 years in a row!
“I write songs everyday. When someone writes their own things, to me they release their character in their music and that character shines through in all their songs. It is what I take the most pride in. I am honored to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. It means the world to me and it is the only award that I will display on my desk.” – Toby Keith
Bobby Braddock has written many hits, but has the distinction of co-writing quite possibly two of the greatest country music songs ever, George Jones‘ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and Tammy Wynette‘s “D-I-V-O-R-C-E.” Other hits to his credit include the George Jones/Tammy Wynette duet “Golden Ring,” Tracy Lawrence‘s “Texas Tornado” and “Time Marches On,” Toby Keith‘s “I Wanna Talk About Me,” and Billy Currington‘s “People Are Crazy.” He is the only living person to have written number one country hits in five consecutive decades! He also discovered Blake Shelton and produced many of his hits.
In a note posted on Facebook, Braddock wrote: “Thanks all for all the congratulations. I’m being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York this summer, along with Toby Keith, Cyndi Lauper, Linda Perry, Willie Dixon, and the Grateful Dead writing duo Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. There is some understandable confusion about the different Halls of Fame. I proudly went into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1981, and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. This is the overall Songwriters Hall of Fame, out of New York — I guess you could call it the “Pop” Songwriters Hall of Fame. They don’t let many of us hillbillies in, so I’m very proud to be going in along with Toby.”
