17-year old Abi Ann has already accomplished a lot…including winning multiple awards, traveling to over 40 countries, and mastering several sports and activities. Fresh off the release of her new single, “Future Ex-Boyfriend,” she just found out that she will be hitting the road opening for Kelly Clarkson! We had a chance to ask her some questions, check out the interview below!
1. Congratulations on the news that you’ll be hitting the road to open for Kelly Clarkson! How did you get the gig and what was your reaction like when you found out?
Thank you so much! I actually got the gig through a previous connection from the Jesse McCartney tour. I am so beyond grateful. When I found out I was in shock. I was in my living room and my mom asked me to call my dad, and he told me! I sat there for a moment as it sank in and burst out in tears. It was truly a moment I’ll never forget.
2. Your current single is called “Future Ex-Boyfriend.” Anyone in particular that served as your inspiration for the song?
Hehe, I did not happen to write Future Ex! I sure wish I did. I heard it in a publishing meeting and the minute I heard the title, I was in love. The song truly inspired and led the direction for the rest of the EP! I was greatly inspired by the fun-loving spirit the song carries.
3. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I grew up listening to Shania Twain, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings. Those three classics are huge factors as to why I chose to sing Country. I also listened to a lot of the Beatles; they truly made me fall in love with music. Today, I listen to a lot of Band Perry, Lady A, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, and as always, those three!
4. What are some of your goals that you hope to accomplish in your musical career?
My primary goal in music is to make a positive impact on the world. I want my music to help the listeners get through heartbreak, bullying, or whatever hardships they’re experiencing. Music is truly my therapy, I hope to do the same for others.
5. What has been the biggest “Wow!” moment in your career?
I’d have to say there’s been a million moments like that! But most recently, finding out I was going to be opening for Kelly and on a bill with some incredible artists takes the cake.
6. What is something outside of music that you are really passionate about?
I am incredibly passionate about traveling and fashion. I love visiting and experiencing other cultures, and a lot of my self-expression is conveyed by my outfits!
7. Outside of music, what is the #1 item on your Bucket List?
I would love to visit over 100 countries and become fluent in another language aside from English and French!
8. What is your favorite charity to support?
I am very closely associated with the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. When you become so close with people affected, you begin to carry the weight of the pain as well and I am determined to help find a cure in any way possible.
9. What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to deal with in your musical career?
Overcoming my fixation on being perfect. I am an absolute stickler when it comes to my voice and slowly I’ve learned that the idea of being flawless is not hitting every note perfectly, but portraying the emotion and passion you have.
10. What advice would you give to an aspiring artist trying to make it in the music business?
It’s hard to fail when you work 365 days a year! This industry may be grueling, but in my opinion, that’s truly what makes it worth all the work.
